Macbeth Final Draft

As a young adult, one goes to school, studies hard, maintains good grades, and works to achieve the same goal as everybody else. Everyone wants to obtain power, because power is often equivalent to money. The ambition for power can be seen as a harmless goal, but many times can lead to the downfall of a person. Greed, combined with the addiction to the most power as possible, is not a good combination. In the book Macbeth, by William Shakespeare, the main character Macbeth hears a prophecy that he will one day be King, and wants to do anything to fulfill it. A once noble warrior is consumed by desire and influenced by his wife, and ends up murdering King Duncan. From then on, Macbeth is no longer the same person, and continues to make more bad decisions. He ends up being King, but is swallowed by guilt and paranoia, which eventually are the causes of his death. Too much power in such a short time is overwhelming and controlling. People make bad decisions in the fear of losing it. Macbeth, by Shakespeare, portrays that when one is placed in the hands of power, all morals and beliefs that they once had are forgotten, because power transforms one into a lesser version of themselves.
Macbeth was once a respected, honorable man, until he received the news that he could possibly be King. From that point on, his character had gone in a downward spiral. "I have no spur/To prick the sides of my intent, but only/Vaulting ambition, which o'erlaps itself." (1.7.25-27) King Duncan was a perfectly good king, but Macbeth killed him for the benefit of his own good. It didn't occur to him that there were other ways to become the King, he chose the easy, quick path, rather than working hard to achieve his goal. "By the worst means, the worst. For mine own good/All causes shall give way." (3.4.137-38) Macbeth decided that he would do whatever it took to fulfill the prophecy, no matter what evil deeds he would have to do. His character is already changing for the worse, just because he's hopeful of the promise of power.
As the addiction to power becomes stronger, Macbeth loses most of his humanity and emotion. "She should have died hereafter;/There would have been a time for such a word,/To-morrow, and to-morrow, and to-morrow." (5.5.17-20) Instead of weeping at the loss of his wife, Macbeth barely thinks twice about it and says that it was bound to happen. There were more important things that he'd rather worry about it, and his wife's death was just a part of life. "The castle of Macduff I will surprise,/Seize upon Fife, give to th'edge o'th'sword/His wife, his babes, and all unfortunate souls."(4.1.150-53) Compared to his first murder, the vile acts that Macbeth are committing are getting uncontrollable. A person who is capable of killing an innocent child is one who has lost pretty much all aspects of their morals.
In the end, Macbeth's character is almost unrecognizable. The traits and characteristics that consumed him towards the end made him a totally different person. "Do call it valiant fury: but for certain,/He cannot buckle his distempered cause/Within the belt of rule."(5.2.13-15) Macbeth became this crazy, unpredictable man who lived his life based off of a prophecy that witches had told him. He lost all self control due to the guilt and paranoia that built up in him over the journey to acquire his power. "I have supped full with horrors;/Direness, familiar to my slaughterous thoughts,/Cannot once start me."(5.5.13-15) At this point, Macbeth had lost all feelings and was basically a walking skeleton. The abundance of power that he claimed in such a short time was overwhelming and stripped him of his compassion for others. All ethics and principles that he once followed was forgotten in his race to become the King.
From his wrongdoings and shortcuts, Macbeth came to a point in which he could no longer be saved. Throughout the book, Macbeth transformed from a person who would do anything to protect his country, to one that almost ended up destroying it. Just from the presence of power, he changed to a unrecognizable version of himself, and forgot everything that he once stood for. Macbeth is a representation of why one should work hard for the things that they want in life, instead of expecting to get by off of cheating. No matter how happy a person thinks they may be from achieving their goal, doing it in the wrong way will only bring them unhappiness in the future.

LOTF Journal

We've been stuck on this island for a few days now and we've made very little progress. Majority of us voted for Ralph to be the leader, but that's pretty much the only thing we've established so far. We tried this method of using a conch shell to determines who gets to talk, but apparently that rule exists for everyone but me. Most of the time, I feel like I'm invisible on this island. I try to share and pitch my ideas, but no one seems to notice that I'm there. The only time that people talk to me is to yell at me or to ask for my glasses to start a fire. Ralph, Jack, and I all have different ideas for how things should go on this island, and no one really knows who to listen to. Well, they don't know if they should listen to Ralph or Jack, since I'm just known as the fat boy. Ralph and I could have the exact same idea, but people will only listen if Ralph says it. It's just so frustrating here!
I sure hope we get rescued soon because the future isn't looking too good for us on this island. Some are getting sick because of the overwhelming amount of fruit that we've been eating, and others are having some pretty realistic nightmares about a "beastie" that hunts in the dark. Also, at midday, it seems as if there are images floating on the surface of the water surrounding us. I told the littleuns that it's just a "mirage" so they wouldn't be frightened, but honestly I was a little concerned myself. What could possibly cause the coral and palm trees to float up in the sky? This island is getting weirder and weirder by the day. The only good news is that Jack and his group finally caught a pig, but Jack didn't want to give me any! He said that I "didn't hunt" but neither did anyone else, yet they still got some. I'm just glad that Simon gave me his piece; he's the only person who's ever done something nice for me so far.
I hope that as soon as we get off this island, I never have to see Jack again for the rest of my life. All he cares about is his dumb pig that he killed! Our rescue plan was to keep a fire going so if a ship sailed by, the could see the smoke and maybe come to save us. Well, a ship did come by, but had no clue that anyone was on the island because Jack let the fire out! That could have been our only chance to get rescued for a while, and he blew it. I finally had the courage to stand up to Jack, but he smacked me hard in face and broke my specs. Now I only got one eye. Then, he started mimicking me, and acting like a child. None of that is going to help us get rescued, but that fire sure could of.

Island Graphic

Our plan on how to get rescued is to build a fire at the top of the mountain each day, in case an airplane or boat passes by and sees the smoke. If that doesn't work, and resources are running out, we will work on building a boat made from the wood of the trees, and strong vines to hold it together. That way, we can sail out, and see if there are any other nearby islands that are inhabited around us.

Macbeth Act 2 Quiz

Macbeth Act II Review

Act II quiz:

1. In your opinion, is Lady Macbeth a cold-blooded murderer? Why or why not?
Yes, I think that Lady Macbeth is a cold-blooded murderer, because although technically she did not murder King Duncan herself, she planned it, suggested it, and played a role in the completion of it. She laid out the dagger, and drugged all of the servants to make sure that they wouldn't wake up. Being the dominant spouse of the two, she convinced Macbeth that doing this would only result in a benefit for the both of them. Lady Macbeth is heartless and refers to Macbeth as a coward for being an emotional wreck after the murder. Her own feelings and emotions are inexistent, as most people would have a mental breakdown after committing such horrid actions.
"Infirm of purpose!/Give me the daggers: the sleeping and the dead/Are but as pictures."(2.2.53-54)
"My hands are of your colour; but I shame/To wear a heart so white." (2.2.64-65)
2. Lady Macbeth has her own antics throughout the play. Why does Lady Macbeth faint in Act II? Does it serve its purpose? Explain.
Lady Macbeth faints in Act II to persuade people that she really is innocent, and to convince them of her "disbelief". This way, she is seen as the helpless Lady who had to witness a horrible scene. It does serve it's purpose, because she probably won't be considered as one of the suspects when investigating the murder.
"Help me hence, ho!/Look to the lady." (2.2.130-31)
"Are stol'n away and fled, which puts upon them/Suspicion of the deed." (2.4.26-27)
3. How does Macbeth's attitude toward Duncan change after the murder?
After coming to a realization of what he's done, Macbeth is overwhelmed with this feeling of guilt . He has all these emotions and regrets about the crime that he just committed. "Wake Duncan with thy knocking! I would thou couldst!" (2.2.74)  However, Lady Macbeth forces him to face the reality that King Duncan is dead by calling him a coward. By doing so, Macbeth puts all of his feelings past him, and is able to easily lie to avoid getting caught for the murderer. "There's nothing serious in mortality/All is but toys: renown and grace is dead/The wine of life is drawn. (2.3.100-3) Before the murder, Macbeth would've done anything to show his faith to the King, but when placed in the hands of power, all of that was changed in an instant.
4. If so pressuring on Macbeth, why didn't Lady Macbeth kill the king instead of Macbeth?
Lady Macbeth didn't kill the King herself because she mentioned that he looked a lot like his father in his sleep. "Had he not resembled/My father as he slept, I had done't." (2.2.12-13) Even for a cold hearted person like Lady Macbeth, she couldn't go through with the idea of killing someone that was close to her. Instead of doing the act, she used her dominance to force Macbeth, while she was the mastermind behind the whole thing. "I laid their daggers ready/He could not miss 'em." (2.2.11-12)
5. Now that Macbeth has killed the king, do you think he must do anything else to reign as king? Explain your answer.
Besides avoiding getting caught for the murder, there is nothing else that Macbeth must do to reign as king. In Act 2, Scene 4, Macduff was explaining that he was already selected to fill the king's position. "He is already named, and gone to Scone/To be invested. (2.4.31-32) If he is able to overcome his guilt, Macbeth will reign as the new king.

Macbeth Anticipation Guide

Macbeth Anticipation Guide
Directions: This is an individual assignment. Read the following statements. Write if you agree or disagree.  Write two sentences AND a personal experience to support your thoughts about each statement. There are no right or wrong answers! Post your answers as a post on your own website/blog and title it Macbeth Anticipation Guide.

1.     Behind every great man is a great woman (every great man is supported, guided, helped and even pushed by a great woman).
I disagree with this statement because every person is capable of being "great", and they don't need anybody else to be able to do so. They are able to be strong and independent on their own, without the need to be pushed by anyone else. My friend has a mom who raised her all by herself, without having to depend on a guy to help her out. It may have been tough at times, but overcoming obstacles and not giving up when things got hard is what made her mom a great mom.
2.     Witches, demons, and evil spirits actually exist.
I disagree with this statement because I have never encountered any of them before, and haven't really heard real stories about them either. I believe that it is more of a superstition, and that it probably doesn't exist in real life. I also believe that there is an explanation for the "mysterious" experiences that people may go through. For example, when I was outside with my dog late at night, I  heard a scary creaking noise behind me, but it was just my grandma walking to get water in her old house.
3.     Sometimes it is necessary to do something wrong to get what you want.
I disagree with this statement, because getting what you want requires effort and perseverance. Bending the rules and trying to cheat gets people nowhere in life. In order to get A's, my friend searches up and tries to find quizzes online so she'll know the questions beforehand. Although she may get A's on the quizzes. by the time the final exam comes, she thinks she gets it and doesn't study, therefore ends up getting C's.
4.     What goes around comes around (karma).
I agree with this statement because I believe that if a person spends majority of their life doing good things, eventually it'll pay off and they will get rewarded in the end. It may not necessarily happen right away, but when people do or think bad things, it's inevitable that karma will catch up to them. For example, when my friend dropped her phone and it stopped working, I laughed at her. A couple days later I dropped my phone in the ocean.
5.     Human beings are easily tempted by things they want, even if it’s wrong.
I agree with this statement because human beings act impulsively and tend to go for the things that we can't or shouldn't have. We don't look at the future consequences of our actions, we just know what we want and that we're going to do everything we can to get it. A couple years ago, I liked someone that I knew wasn't right for me, but I wanted him anyway just because of his looks. He wasn't smart, and we couldn't even hold a conversation for a long time, yet we still ended up "talking". In the end, I feel like he got in the way of my academics and kept my focus off sports. I knew that he wasn't right for me, but I was tempted by what I wanted, instead of what I needed.
6.     If someone feels that the ruler/s of his/her country is destroying the country, that person should try to overthrow the ruler/s.
I disagree with this statement because there are better ways to get things done. Attempting to overthrow a ruler will just cause a big riot and disagreements between the citizens of the country. However, I do believe if the situation is really horrible, such as Germany's with Adolf Hitler, then actions needed to relieve him of his power as soon as possible should be done.
7.     There are circumstances or events that justify murdering someone.
I agree with this statement because often times, one's emotions act before their brain gets a chance to. Not that everybody should do it, but there are certain situations when murdering someone is justified. When I was watching an episode of Criminal Minds, a guy murdered somebody's entire family. When the guy finally found the murderer, he ended up killing him, to get revenge from taking his family away from him. Situations like these makes it understandable, but not necessarily right, when killing someone.
8.     Success is worth any price you have to pay.
I agree with this statement because a person pretty much works their entire life to obtain success. It's the reason why we go to college, strive to get good grades in school, and work hard in extracurricular activities. My mom's friend had to move away from her family and her friends, so that she could be a pharmacist in Washington. She may not have wanted to do it, but it was the price she had to pay to become successful and provide for her kids.
9.     Kings are appointed by God, and they rule as His representatives on Earth.
I disagree with this statement because everybody has an equal chance of becoming a ruler. If they are a hard worker and have the quality of leading by example, then they have a chance of being a King. I don't believe that God assigns certain people to rule as His representatives on Earth, because so many rulers have committed horrible actions, such as Hitler. God would not want a man who has committed so many sins as His representative.
10.  Your astrological forecast (your horoscope) is a good indicator of how your day will go.
I disagree with this statement because there are millions of people who have the same zodiac sign, and all those millions of people will not have the same type of day. Some people have good days, and some people have bad days, but that doesn't have anything to do with your horoscope. For example, yesterday's horoscope told me that by the end of the day, I would have accomplished plenty, but all I did yesterday was watch netflix.
11.  Traitors should be executed.
I disagree with this statement because treason is a very serious crime, so it should be taken seriously. Instead of being killed and freed of their suffering, traitors should spend the rest of their lives behind bars, where they get a lot of time to think about their actions. Death seems like the easy way out, so traitors should not get to take that route. For example, on a movie that I was watching, a citizen tried to leak the U.S. war codes to the Japanese, but was caught. He was sentenced to death but was actually smiling when he died, because he knew that he would no longer have to suffer and be in jail.

Partner Macbeth Pre Discussion

Partner: Zak
- Is evil ingrained in human nature? That is, are some people just “born evil,” or is evil caused by circumstance or environment?
We believe that evil is caused by circumstance and environment, because babies are born innocent, and lack the knowledge about evil actions. One's mind develops according to their environment during their childhood. As they grow up, they experience and perceive the different levels of evil that are embedded in this world. For example, if a person grows up in an abusive family, the chances of them turning out to be abusive as well is greatly increased. A child brought up to be kind hearted, with no reasons to display acts of evil is the opposite. Their chances of turning evil are none. In, conclusion, people are not born evil but they are influenced at a young age. Being raised poorly in an unhealthy environment causes evil.

Are our lives determined by fate, or by the acts of our free will?
Our lives are determined by free will. There is always a choice in anything you do. People don't have one fate in their life, they are able to change their life and make their own path. Some people wait for their fate when they could be living their life with free will. For example, if an athlete wants to make it to the pros, they should work their hardest to make sure they make it. Leaving it to fate stops them from working hard. In conclusion, people don't have one fate. Their choices in life sculpt their path.

Is redemption truly possible? That is, is it possible to commit an act of genuine evil and truly recover from it?
No,  we don't believe that redemption is truly possible, because when a person commits an act of genuine evil, it stays with them and haunts them forever. Even if they receive forgiveness from the people that they hurt from their actions, they can never truly forgive themselves. What they can do is make peace with their decision and understand that the past is in the past, and there is nothing that they can do to change it. People can try to make up for their actions by doing good deeds and  being a better person, but the truth is, that act of evil will have changed their lives forever. We don't believe that anyone can ever fully recover from an act of genuine evil.

Is it possible to admire or respect a person whom you know has committed acts of genuine evil?
Yes, it is possible to admire or respect a person whom you know has committed acts of genuine evil . Acts of evil don't necessarily define who a person is. A person can have a major setback in their life, caused by a bad decision, and then turn around and work towards the greater good for the rest of their life, in an attempt to redeem themselves. That is a person who'd we both admire and respect, because it shows perseverance and the willingness to change, which is always tough.

Do “the ends justify the means”? That is, if one uses morally evil methods to acquire a goal, is that goal forever tainted or polluted by the actions one has taken to achieve it?

Night Final Exercise

Write 2 thesis statements for which you could write well-supported literary analysis essays. Remember when analyzing the literature we are always trying to determine the meaning of the literature. It is not a summary or you repeating what is already known. So in the thesis you need to tell us something that you can prove through evidence from the book. You need to write two thesis statements based off these literary elements:

Theme: The book "Night" by Elie Wiesel portrays that when people are presented with the constant threat of death, they lose their morals and their ability of being a decent human being.

  • “Once again, the young men bound and gagged her. When they actually struck her, people shouted their approval.” (pg. 26)
  • “The three veterans, with needles inter hands, engraved a number on our left arms. I became A-7713. From then on, I had no other name.” (pg. 39)
  • “I heard the pounding of my heart. The thousands of people who died daily in Auschwitz and Birkenau, in the crematoria, no longer troubled me.” (pg. 62)
  • “One day when we had come to a stop, a worker took a piece of bread out of his bag and threw it into a wagon. There was a stampede. Dozens of starving men fought desperately over a few crumbs. The worker watched the spectacle with great interest. In the wagon where the bread had landed, a battle had ensued. Men were hurling themselves against each other, trampling, tearing at and mauling each other.” (pg. 100-101)

Character: The inhumane acts of the Holocaust caused many people to lose their basic human qualities,  but in the book "Night", Elie Wiesel shows that hope and compassion will eventually get one through even the most seemingly hopeless of situations that life may present.
  • - “Don’t lose hope… Have faith in life, a thousand times fate… Help each other. That is the only way to survive.” (pg. 41)
  • - “‘Don’t be afraid,’ he said. ‘Everything will be alright.’... Every one of his words was healing and every glance of his carried a message of hope.” (pg. 79)
- "My God, Lord of the Universe, give me strength never to do what Rabbi Eliahou's son has done." (pg 87)
- "I tightened my grip on my father's hand. The old, familiar fear: not to lose him"

1) Dehumanization- The act of treating an individual as if they are not a human being.
2) The prisoners no longer consider other people their friends and family. For example, when the guards throw a piece of bread into the train, one of the older prisoners manages to get it and sneak it into his shirt. When the prisoner's son sees this, he jumps on top of his father and ends up beating him to death. They live by the saying "every man for himself" and will kill and fight other people for just a small piece of food.
3) The first change that Eliezer noticed when at the camps was that he was losing his emotions. When his father was harshly beaten right in front of him, he couldn't help but just watch silently. Eliezer also begins to think negative thoughts about his father, such as how he'd be better off if his father was dead, but immediately regrets it. He prays for the strength to keep those thoughts out of his mind, and to not be like some of the other prisoners that he saw.

Quotes:
"Without passion, without haste, they slaughtered their prisoners." (pg. 4)

"I became A-7713 ... I had no other name." (pg. 39)

"I now took little interest in anything except my daily plate of soup and my crust of stale brad. Bread, soup - these were my whole life." (pg. 50)

"Dozens of starving men fought each other to the death for a few crumbs." (pg. 95)

Night Quiz

1) When the prisoners first enter the camp, they are allowed to take a hot shower. However, they were to leave their clothes in the other block, since they were promised new ones. The prisoners had to remove all of their clothing and their personal items. Then, the veterans came around and engraved numbers into the prisoners with needles. Those numbers were what the prisoners would be identified by, and what the Germans would use to evaluate those that were weak and the ones that were strong.

2) The one thing that remains the same at Birkenau is their bell schedules. Although they encountered many different guards, some that seemed surprisingly humane, some that they were terrified of, different rations of food, and different labor jobs, they always had a bell schedule. The bells rang for when it was time for roll call, meal times, and when to go to bed. Elie said that he hated the bells, and  when he pictured a better world, it was one with no bells.

3) One of the most unknown things that the prisoners had to encounter was the selections. They didn't know when the selections were, or if they would be healthy enough to pass. At one point, Elie's father didn't think that he was healthy enough to pass, so he gives Elie his knife and spoon, which he thought would be useful. If tbey wrote your number down, you would be killed. The prisoners were always glancing at the guards, praying that they would pass the selection. Another thing that was unknown to the prisoners was when or if they would be transeferred to a new camp, and if that camp would be worse than the previous one. For example, the Auschwitz canp was one of the better ones, where the labor wasn't that bad, and they got bigger portions of food. However, when they were sent to Buna, the guards were mean, and the work was harder.

4) At Auschwitz, the guards were relatively nice, and treated the prisoners like actual humans. They were given new clothes, a wash basin, and bigger food rations. Elie said that he heard the guard speak the first "human words" since being at the camps. However, at Buna, they encountered a guard named Idek. Idek had little fits of frenzy, and no one wanted to get in his way when he had one. When Elie got in his way, he was struck repeatedly, until he was covered in blood. When Elie's father couldn't keep up with his work, Idek beat him with an iron bar. After seeing Idek with a girl, Elie was whipped 25 times for what he witnessed. Idek tried to look for little things that he could use against the prisoners, so he could beat them up.

Critical Stance: Discuss the contrast between the panic of the Jews with EACH NEW decree or action of the government and their attempts to reassure themselves and to adjust to each new infringement on their freedom. When Moshe the Beadle came back after being sent off for being a foreign Jew, he tried to warn everybody about the Gestapo slaughtering people and using babies as targeting practice, but all the Jews just considered him to be a mad man. They just couldn't understand how people could do that kind of acts to other human beings. When the government first put their plans in action to relocate all of the Jews, many of them just assumed that they were being sent off to work for factories. Also, when everybody was give the gold star to wear, their thoughts were that it doesn't kill you, so it's not that big of a deal. They even considered themselves pretty well off when they were fenced in with barbed wire. They liked the idea of living among fellow Jews, like their own little community. When nobody would tell them where they were being deported to, they made up optimistic stories to help pass time and keep them from thinking about what else could possibly happen. Dialectical Journal Entries: 1) "There are a thousand and one gates leading into the orchard of mystical truth. Ewilvery human being has his own gate. We must never make the mistake of wanting to enter the orchard by any gate but our own. To do this is dangerous for the one who entered and also for those who are already there." - Moshe the Beadle (page 3 paragraph 4)
This quote shows the Moshe the Beadle has very strong values and is a religious man. It means that some people in your life will be of big help, but others can be an obstacle. You should be careful about who you trust.

2)"Without passion, without haste, they slaughtered their prisoners. Each one had to go up to the hole and present his neck. Babies were thrown up in the air and the machine gunners used them as targets." (page 4 lines 20-23)Moshe the Beadle tried to warn the Jews about the actions that were being done to the foreign Jews, but nobody believed him. This was the beginning of the nightmare for anyone of the Jewish race.

3) "My father was crying. It was the first time I saw him cry. I had never thought it possible. As for my mother, she was walking, her face a mask, without a word, deep in thought. I looked at my little sister, Tzipora, her blond hair neatly combed, her red coat over her arm: a little girl of seven. On her back a bag too heavy for her. She was clenching her teeth; she already knew it was useless to complain. Here and there, the police were lashing out with their clubs. "Faster!" I had no strength left. The journey had just begun and I already felt so weak.
During this  time period, people had a hard time understanding why this was happening to them. They didn't do anything wrong, yet they were forced to leave everything behind and relocate to an unknown place. It was hard on everyone, and one by one people were slowly breaking.

4)"- "There was no floor. a roof and four walls. Our feet sank into the mud." (page 35)
This quote gives a brief description of what life was like in  the concentration camps. It was pretty much worse than a prison, and their living conditions were harsh.

5) "What a shame, a shame that you did not go with your mother … I saw many children your age go with their mothers …"
Elie's father didn't want to see his son suffer and go through the things that he knew could happen. If Elie went with his mother, he'd probably be safer, and his father wouldn't have to see his pain.

The Holocaust (partner Kaela)

The word "Holocaust" means the destruction or slaughter on a mass scale, specifically by fire. Heirnrich Heine, a German poet, wrote "Where one burns books, one will, in the end, burn people." Since the German's believed that they were superior to the Jewish people, they wanted to kill all of them, and keep only the people that were blonde-haired and blue eyed. The Holocaust was a devastating event in which millions of people died, in an attempt to purify Germany's population. "A large population of the Jewish people were sent to labor camps, and approximately 12,000 Jews were gassed and killed everyday." Majority of the Jews did nothing wrong, yet they were killed for something that they had no control over. Just because a dictator believed that their race was not important, all of the Jews were in constant danger, and had to suffer harsh punishments and torture. The Holocaust was an inhumane act, which nearly wiped out the entire Jewish population.

Just the meaning of the name Holocaust, is just a glimpse of what happened in the Jewish concentration camps. It comes from the greek word "Holos"( whole) and costs (burned). The holocaust was the mass murder of about 6 million jews. Hitler, the dictator at the time believed that Germans was a superior than any other race. There were many concetration camps in Poland including Chelmno, Sobibor, Treblinka, Majdenek, and Auschwitz - Birkenau. The Germans tried to keep these camps a secret but due to large amount of killings it was very hard to do so. He also forced them on the front line of war, ultimately causing death. As Champetier de Ribes, the French Prosecutor at the Nuremberg Trials explained, “This [was] a crime so monstrous, so undreamt of in history … that the term ‘genocide’ has had to be coined to define it.”  this crime was very inhumane, as it a an act of racism genocide, due to Hitler not liking a certain race. Kity Hart-Moxon, a survivor of Auschwitz-Birkenau, remembers the high value placed on food, and so much wanting to survive the camp. She would sometimes take the piece of bread from the body of someone who had died during the night"  This explains the harsh conditions that the jews had no choice to encounter, If the german Nazi's didn't kill them, the lack of food causing starvation did. Overall the jewish people had received torture for their beliefs for no reason and that the dictator at the time believed that another race was more important.

Due to the recent election results, our new president Donald Trump has made an executive order suspending refugees from coming into America. The ones mostly affected by the ban includes people Iraq, Syria, Iran, Sudan, Libya, Somalia, and Yemen. This ban will keep refugees in war zones. This ban is to support the idea of protecting America against Terrorism. This ban is unjust and inhumane to those refugees trying to seek a better life for them and their families."Every day our teams on the ground see people desperately seeking safety at closed borders and in war zones from which they cannot flee," said Jason Cone, executive director of MSF USA. Due to this ban many people who are just seeking a more fit life can not do so. This ban is unjust and inhumane to those refugees trying to seek a better life for them and their families. In the predicament that most Refugees are in they are trying to escape the types of conflict in their home lands.
"Refugees are mothers and fathers and children who want what we all want: a safe place to live their lives, free from war and persecution," Cone said. " many are trying to remove the ban as it is an exclusion of race. This is a example of inhumanity because Trump has no care for the refugees as whom he has put a stereotype on.

Many countries come to the aid of others when they are in a crisis. "In Aleppo, South Sudan, 70% of the women in the Civilian Protection Camps have reported being raped, and 78% have been forced to watch violent sexual attacks." Rape is being used as a weapon of war, and these inhumane acts need to come to an end. When people do these kinds of actions, they are not thinking about how the person on the receiving end will be affected. "Civilians are being slaughtered, and children are being forced into the roles of child soldiers." The death rates in South Sudan are on the rise, and the only option that the citizens have is to flee their country, and leave everything behind. It is unjust for another country to kill thousands of people a day, just because of a disagreement. Other countries need to start paying more attention to the genocide that is happening in Aleppo, and help to improve their situation.

Allusion Poem

My sister and i used to be best friends
Then one day it came to an end
She shut me out and i didn’t know why
All of a sudden i started to cry
I wondered what i did wrong
Why weren’t we getting along?
I was awkward, feisty and daring
She was cautious, soft spoken and caring
Maybe our differences pulled us apart
The fact that she didn’t want to talk to me broke my heart

As the years went by nothing had changed
Our rooms were so close, yet only few words were exchanged
When it was a perfect sunny day
I would ask if she wanted to go out and play
But she would always tell me no
So eventually i just left her alone
I could feel the bond between us fading
Our relationship was one that needed saving
If i ever wanted things to go back to the way they were
I realized I would have to make the effort for both me and her

I learned that there was so much about her that i didn’t know
I mean, i knew what she liked to do and the places that she liked to go
But who she was on the inside i had no clue
To find out, there was a big wall that I had to get through
She was so set on living her life in isolation
And to change her mind would take great determination
I just wanted her to open up to me
To let me in and to be like how we used to be
I decided to stop trying to change her and to let her be herself
Because although you can’t change other people you can change yourself

A couple years later our relationship got stronger
We were able to hold our conversations for longer
Although it took some time to get where we are
We are finally getting along, so far
A sisterly bond is one that should never be broken
Even though our love for each is other is often unspoken
Nobody is perfect and that’s okay
I wouldn’t want it any other way
We are now closer than we ever were before
All because we don’t focus on our differences anymore

Allusion Songs

Song: I see Fire
Artist: Ed Sheeran
Description: For the song, “I see fire” by Ed Sheeran, there is a hidden meaning referring to the story of the last supper from the bible. “Oh, should my people fall. Then surely I’ll do the same. Confined in mountain halls. We got too close to the flame.” This verse from the song relates to Jesus coming back to Earth to help his people from the original sin. When he sings “we got close to the flame,” it is referring to the devil that convinced Adam and Eve to eat that apple, which resulted us in getting the original sin. “And if we should die tonight. Then we should all die together. Raise a glass of wine for the last time.” This verse is self explanatory. In the bible, Jesus was preparing for his death the next day and he decide to have a last meal with all of his disciples. This was when he did the transubstantiation with the bread and wine. “I see fire. Blood in the breeze. And I hope that you remember me.” “This is my body which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” (Corinthians 11:23-25) The song lyric from the song matches up with what Jesus said during the last supper. Jesus was also sent down by God to spread the word about him. (And I hope that you remember me)

Song: Youth
Artist: Troye Sivan
Description: The song “Youth,” by Troye Sivan describes the feelings that Peter Pan had when he found out that he was growing old. “What if. What if we run away. What if. What if we left today. What if. We said goodbye to safe and sound.” Peter Pan was a boy that wanted to run away from all of his problems because he was afraid of what he was going to become when he is old. He was also an adventurer that seeked thrill and excitement every minute of his life. For a better life, Pan then moved to Neverland and lived with the fairies so that he would never have to grow old. One day we went through a girl’s window (Wendy) and asked her and her siblings if they wanted to go to Neverland with him. Neverland was a blank canvas that give kids the freedom to dream and be free. “My youth. My youth is yours. Trippin’ on skies, sippin waterfalls.” Peter Pan gave his mortal life to be with the fairies and lost boys in Neverland (my youth is yours). Since the fountain of youth is located in the Neverlands’, Troye Sivan implies that Peter Pan sips on the waterfall to keep his youthful self young.

Song: Girl On Fire
Artist: Alicia Keys
Description: Not only does the title refer to the hawaiian goddess Pele, but she also relates to the lyrics in the song too. Pele is a Hawaiian God that is describes as the goddess of fire, lightning, dance, wind, volcanoes, and violence. “No Kahiki mai ka wahine ‘o Pele, Mai ka ‘aina mai o Polapola, Mai ka punohu a Kane, Mai ke ao lapa i ka lani.” This ancient Hawaiian chant is translate to “The woman Pele comes from Kahiki, From the land of Polapola, From the rising mist of Kane, From the clouds that move in the sky.” In the song, Alicia Keys says, “She got her head in the clouds and she’s not backing down. Looks like a girl but she’s a flame. So bright, she can burn your eyes, better look the other way. You can try but you’ll never forget her name. She’s on top of the world.” Pele lives in Mauna Kea, the volcano which are as high as the clouds. She will never back down from her eternal fire pit.

Song: Kill Em’ With Kindness
Artist: Selena Gomez
Description: The song “Kill Em’ With Kindness,” was a reference to the bible verse, “If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink: For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the lord shall reward thee.” (Proverbs: 25:21-22) The bible suggests that the best way to “kill” someone is through random acts of kindness, for it will give your enemy a strange feeling towards you.

or

The song also refers to one of William Shakespeare’s play “Taming Of The Shrew: ” (Act 4, Scene 1) “And if she chance to nod I’ll rail and brawl, And with the clamor keep her still awake. This is a way to kill a wife with kindness.”The reason why Petrucio said this was to tame Kate’s nagging personality. He wanted to turn her into an obedient wife and “killing her with kindness” was the perfect way to do it. But for him, “killing with kindness” is interpreted as depriving Kate of sleep and food for a point of time until she becomes the type of “wife” that he wants.
